About
Welcome to my world - somewhere between a fever dream and a forgotten fairytale.
I'm Madeleine, a self-taught digital collage artist from Woodend, Australia. My practice is called Play God - because that is exactly what I believe we are all doing. In our own lives, our own minds, our own stories, we are each the creator of our world. This work is mine.
My pieces live in the space where nostalgia becomes strange, layered with lace, armour, ribbon, and shadow, built from the textures of girlhood and the weight of growing up. Drawing on personal experience, I return again and again to the quiet tensions of childhood and femininity - the way beauty can feel like a costume, tenderness like a trap, innocence like something performed.
I'm drawn to worlds that hold darkness and wonder in the same breath - Alice tumbling through the looking glass, the red curtains of Twin Peaks, the savage romance of McQueen, the ornamentation of Victorian and medieval aesthetics, the gilded uncanniness of the vintage circus. These are the places I return to, and the places my work tries to build.
My figures are adorned and obscured, present and elsewhere - gods of their own interior worlds, as we all are.
This is my somewhere. I'm glad you found it.
